Caravan Crib by Kalon Studios

by Kate on December 7, 2020

Kalon Studios just unveiled their Caravan crib and it is luscious! I wish this were around 3 years ago when I needed a crib.

But, let’s face it, a designer crib isn’t bought for the baby, it’s bought for the parents. A baby can sleep just about anywhere when she actually decides to sleep - usually a nice lap does the trick. That said, designing a nursery, especially for the first time, is one of those experiences a new mom will cherish for a lifetime. The anticipation that fills the room before the baby arrives is only matched by the satisfaction of a sleeping baby once he’s inhabiting it. It’s the place your little one first comes home to. It’s where you will, most likely, spend most of your time in the beginning few months.

There are, now, a number of good options for modern, contemporary design when it comes to cribs. Not so much when I was first looking, so unfortunately I missed out on these lovely creations back when I first brought my daughter home. Maybe that’s why I keep looking at cribs with the pull of wanting…NOT another baby, mind you. Lord no. Just the baby’s new room.

The Caravan crib makes you think of childhood without pulling the nostalgia chord - not so easy to do. Doesn’t it make you dream about old time circus wagons, but in a good way? It’s supposed to - that was the inspiration.

And, it’s safe and sustainable, too…ultra green (solid construction, stationary sides, conforms to the highest safety standards and 100% visibility of your child from all sides, fully sustainable and made from the highest quality FSC Certified domestic Maple and with 100% non-toxic and/or food safe materials + finishes, adjustable mattress height and toddler bed conversion and finally, made in the U.S.A.) Whew, that’s a mouthful.

Speaking of green, it comes in the actual color green if you’d like. Or black, red, yellow, or blue rails.

Yes, it’s expensive at just under $900, but it can have a long life and multiple uses. So, there is that to think about.

Kalon Studios is a team of super talented, thoughtful designers and while I love the Caravan crib, just about everything on their site jumps out at me. Give ‘em a look see.

Love the design, and yes, it screamed “CIRCUS TRAIN” at me when I saw it. But then you mentioned a price tag of $900 … and lost me. Yowsa. Gimme a traditional crib for $250 and I’ll save the money for a big kid bed that will last 15 years rather than two.

I dont like it all that much. Perhaps because I’m not so visual and have a hard time imagining this thing in a lovely nursery. I go for the traditional baby stuff, frefferably with victorian carvings.

I LOVE this crib. I recently purchased it and let me tell you, picture don’t do it justice. I got it in the pink color for my little girl and it is just fabulous. As for the price, I feel fine spending that much, especially since I know that this is a quality piece that will last for all my kids. And it being eco friendly and toxin free is just an added bonus. Kudos Kalon, keep it coming.

I totally agree. Wish I had bought it for our nursery…Oh well, next baby, right! (but, pssst, don’t tell my hubby I said that :)
