Mad Men Style: Pieces to Put In Your Wardrobe
The hit series Mad Men may be set in the 1960′s but some of the fashion has my attention. In a time where flip-flops and blue jeans rule, I find myself admiring the fashion of days gone by when women dressed for dinner and were presentable when showing up at their child’s school.
It’s not to say I’m not thankful that I have the option to wear my yoga pants, but I also would love to not feel overdressed if I were to pop on a pencil skirt to go about town. It feels a little out of place for me right now as a stay-at-home mom/professional.
So what fashions do I find appealing from the 1960′s era television show?
The sleek sheath dress in a pop of color is perfect for the current season. Change up the color, and you could wear this particular dress from season to season. Simply throw on a trench in the fall or sleek wool coat in the winter and you are instantly stunning. The only element of her look that I would not incorporate would be her hair - a more relaxed look would be more fitting with present day.
Crisp white top with a lace cami and houndstooth pencil skirt makes for a sexy but professional ensemble. Add in the side-swiped updo and this 1960′s look fits right in current times from head to toe, if you ask me. Add in a statement necklace for a modern flair and you’re all set.
A navy blue high waisted pencil skirt with a warm orange blouse is a beautiful combination. Admittedly, not for everyone because of the bold color choices - but they compliment one another well and would fare well in the fall. As an update, a belted waist is a consideration.
Aah…dressing up for dinner. I love the idea of doing this regularly. This particular dress in the gold/mustard hue and the off the shoulder look is beautiful and would be a great look today. Update the jewelry and hair and you would have a winner for a night out with your significant other.
