Quick Indulgences You Should Take

by Nicole Hempeck on April 5, 2021

This is a quick and dirty list of indulgences you can take right now, this week, when you can sneak away for 30 minutes.

The husband’s watching golf on the couch anyway? Leave him with the kids and do something for yourself. Kids are asleep? Forget the laundry and focus on something frivolous for a bit. Have to get chores done? Make it fun by indulging at the same time.

Life should be fun and indulgent. Plain and simple.

Manicure and Pedicure

One or both, whichever you have time for. Sure, they can be pricey, but if you sign up for those fantastic coupon sites like Groupon or Living Social and sync up with your local area, wait for a glorious little nugget to pop up in your inbox and bolt when the husband is planted for the next several hours watching his favorite sports addiction. You deserve it.

Early Morning Coffee Alone

Sure, getting up early is hard, but when you do it and allow yourself peace and quiet for thirty minutes to an hour before everyone else is up, it is a beautiful thing. And, it can set the tone for a more productive and less time restrictive day. You’ll feel like you actually had a moment to yourself, and patience may be yours.

Glass of Wine on the Porch with a Friend

Put the kids to bed and meet your friend from across the street outside for a glass of wine on the front steps and chat for a bit. Catch up on the week, commiserate or just sit and relax. You may not have time to get out and about for several hours but it’s amazing what thirty minutes with a girlfriend can do for your morale.

iPod Jam Session

You may have to get those dishes done or those loads of laundry folded and put away, but it doesn’t have to be a dull event. Tuck your iPod or similar music player into your back pocket, put the earphones in, tune the rest of the world out after bed time or during nap time and jam out to your favorite Nicki Minaj or Ludacris…wait…am I the only one who still likes rap and drives a minivan? {Ahem} Anyway…chores don’t have to be crummy…have fun with it; indulge in that music you can’t let your kids listen to while getting it all handled.

Frivolous Read

Pick up a great book, and I’m not talking about reading anything that makes you think serious. Make it mindless because this is all about indulging remember? Anyone heard about the latest book, 50 Shades of Grey? I haven’t read it, but I’ve heard it’s quite the scandalous read…if you’re adventurous enough! I’m pretty sure it fits the “indulgent” category.

What are you going to do to indulge this week? What am I missing off of this list?

I’m all about taking some time for myself; however, if I don’t plan it out, I’m not very spontaneous! Sad - but true. I now keep a list of things I’d like to do if I get the chance. (not just errands)

Those hours you get when the kids are at dance lessons/sports practices, etc., are a great time to splurge — you can get in some reading, do some clothes shopping or just find the time to chat with a good friend. Or just grab a good cup of gourmet coffee!

Love these. I especially like to sneak to a quiet part of the house and read a good book. It’s like a little slice of heaven.

Yes!! I’m reading 50 Shades of Gray and it is indeed very scandalous and a great indulgence! I need to print this list out. It’s so easy to forget to do things for yourself and music can really lift the spirit!
